Large Cents and Early United States Copper Coins

Last update: May 4, 2026

LargeCents.net is dedicated to collecting early United States copper coins, especially Large Cents struck in Philadelphia from 1793 through 1857. The site includes collection photos, Sheldon variety information, articles, books, and early copper coins offered for sale.

My specialty is collecting the early dates, 1793 to 1814, by Sheldon variety. A variety is simply a coin struck from a unique obverse/reverse die pairing. There are 295 different Sheldon varieties in all. Currently I have 282 of the 295 Sheldon varieties, and 1 of the NC's (Non-Collectible) varieties. All are photographed and described under My Collection. (If you just want to see photos of the coins, go to Photo Index instead.)

Enjoy your visit!
